I am a senior at Hilliard Bradley High School. My high school experience has been great so far. I have played varsity soccer my sophomore and senior because I had injuries my freshman and junior year. I try and maintain all A's in all of my classes and work hard to keep them there. I am apart of Class Cabinet at school, which is a club that plans dances and helps students be more apart of the activities at school. Outside of school, I like to hangout with my friends and play soccer. I love to eat sweets, including my favorite which is ice cream. I love to watch basketball and football games at the school or watch at home with my family. I am really active and love to be around other people.
My Project
For my capstone project, I chose to use my experience of attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference. I was elected by my college counselor to attend this overnight conference at Ohio University. It was a chance for me to improve my leadership skills that I already have and to even learn new ways of becoming a better figure to my peers and teammates. I chose this experience because it was something I would never expect to be apart of it and it really taught me more about Rotary and how to be a leader.
What is RYLA?
RYLA, or Rotary Youth Leaderships Awards, is a leadership program that is coordinated by Rotary Clubs around the globe. Each year, thousands of students are selected from their high schools to attend a conference in their local district rotary club. At the conference, the students are inspired by a diverse group of speakers and make friendships with other students while practicing more leadership activities. RYLA recognizes and rewards those students for their past and present leadership and service activities. It is not a camp to teach leadership skills, but to advance those skills that they already have. RYLA's intention is to encourage students to be a more effective leader and pass those skills onto their peers at school and other communities.
